Last week I was praising the whole team on their extra effort during May, and the near-record month for the Java team and record breaking interview numbers for the rest of the business.

This week I’m just as thrilled to have reason to praise our amazing Operations Manager, Mavis Mathebela, for her great effort resulting in us being awarded a LEVEL 1 BEE status!

I hardly need to tell you what this means to eMerge, but I’m so excited that I can’t stop myself!

Most importantly it reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering other black-owned businesses, not only through funding, support and using their services, but also through mentorship and introducing them to potential new clients and business.

This achievement opens new doors for us too, especially with the biggest corporates who are most committed to changing the South African business landscape.

I’m also thrilled for Mavis, who is rightly extremely proud of this success and that we have achieved what many bigger, wealthier firms have not. As she says, we have done this “the right way”, through genuine interest in, and commitment to the cause, and not just ticking the right boxes on the form. Our popular internship programme, and our enthusiasm to making real difference to black entrepreneurs (I’ll tell you more about these in a future newsletter) have given us the step up.
