The advancement of technology over the last 50 years has been a steady one, a nice rounded curve of innovation and ingenuity. However, in the last 10 years in particular, the leaps and bounds in technological advancements have ignored the gentle curve completely and shot right into a soaring straight line upwards.
Many futurists and technologists predict that the next 10 – 20 years will blow our minds when it comes to technology. Here are our top three predictions for the tech space by 2025.
Connectivity is King
Our insatiable drive for data and connectivity won’t be abating any time soon. In his article, This Is How Tech Will Totally Change Our Lives by 2025, Victor Luckerson says “the ever-increasing hunger for data will fundamentally change the way we live our lives over the next decade.” He refers to the Institute for the Future’s report on technologies that will change our future, in which they suggest that “everything from cars to coffee cups will be connected to the Internet by 2025.”
Instant Gratification
We are a society that is used to getting what we want, and getting it now. The Institute for the Future hypothesizes that “by 2025 we will be selling our information about everything from our shopping habits to our health activities to retailers and pharmaceutical companies.” Meaning that the likes of an Amazon or Woolworths Food will be able to predict what we want before we’ve even asked for it – an algorithm based phenomenon called “predictive economy”. Right now, we live in a reactive world economy but Mihir Shukla in his article entitled; Jobs in 2025: What you or your kids will be doing in a decade says, “(technology) will make it possible to predict what days of the month we will need certain amounts of paper towels or coffee grounds to appear on our doorsteps.”
Robots and Artificial Intelligence
What was predicted in The Terminator, is looking more and more likely to be our reality in the near future. Within the manufacturing sector, robotics and the use of robots on production lines to replace human beings is happening as we speak. Predictions are that most things being produced will be done by automated robots and humans will merely be around to program them and modify if need be. Check out how Amazon is already using robots in their production facilities, to incredibly efficient and time-effective use.
In a world where technology reigns supreme and times they are a changin’ a lot faster than Dylan could ever have predicted, it’s wise to be at the top of your game. Make sure you are in the right job for 2025, and see what jobs we have available right now on our JOB LIST.
That’s according to a new report by the Institute for the Future, a nonprofit think tank that has released a set of five predictions for the ways tech will change the future.
